T.O.T. Grant funds Tourism in Trinity

This February, the Trinity County Board Of Supervisors has awarded the Trinity County Chamber of Commerce a Transient Occupancy Tax Grant to be dispersed  among the recipients responsible for building business, developing tourism, and providing “quality of life” for the Trinity community.

This year’s grant reflects the decrease in tourism dollars due to the closure of Hwy. 299 from Redding to Trinity County while Caltrans removed hairpin curves to create a safer drive.  The low water level in Trinity Lake prompted boaters and campers to choose alternate vacation plans.  Consequently, the T.O.T. grant allotment for tourism dropped to $58,267 with 19.5% or $11,36207 awarded to the Trinity County Arts Council.

The Arts Council uses the funds to promote tourism in many ways.  We produce the monthly 1st Saturday Art Walk in Weaverville that includes 9-15 venues and Live Music in 2 locations during the Spring and Summer.  We produce several major events including the Artists in Action Festival in which 35+ artists and musicians demonstrate their crafts on the sidewalks of Main Street Weaverville, and our Annual Brunch with live music and luscious appetizers at the Trinity Alps Golf Course and Restaurant.  This year marks the 1st Annual Trinity County Art in the Alps; Celebrating the Ceramic Arts.  Saturday, June 3, 2017, many talented ceramic artists from Siskiyou, Shasta, Tehama, Trinity, and Butte Counties will dazzle spectators.   Join in the activities from 10:30 am  to 8 pm along Main Street in Historic Weaverville.

Visitors can expect to see: *Outstanding Artists * Ceramic Vendors * Informative Demos * Insightful Speakers and * Exciting Exhibitions. * Participate in Raku Firing * Kids can create Sculpey Critters.

The Art Walk, from 5 pm to 8 pm, will have Live Music and art openings with refreshments at 11 venues, many featuring Ceramic Art.

The Trinity Arts Council co-produces many events such as the Nor-Cal Jazz Festival, the Festival of Light Crafts Fair, Historic Weaverville Car Show, and the Mountain Magic Christmas.   And, we E-blast our network with the “Art Events this Week”.

Trinity County, nestled in the Trinity Alps, is only a 40 minute drive from Redding and 2 hours from the coast.  With festivals most Summer weekends, the History depicted by the J.J. Jackson Museum and Joss House Chinese Temple, and a Lively Music Community with performances at the weekly Farmers’ Markets in both Hayfork and Weaverville, the Trinity Alps Performing Arts Center, Tangle Blue Saloon, and Northern Delights Coffee House.  So many reasons to visit our wonderful community.
