James and the Giant Peach

Date: October 12, 2017 - October 14, 2017

Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Category: Performing Arts

Location: Center for the Arts , Chico

Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach is now a Theatre for Young Audiences musical perfect for the whole family to enjoy! Inspire School of Arts & Sciences will bring this tuneful, quirky, and masterful show to the stage October 12th-14th at the Center for the Arts. Audiences will love meeting the outlandish characters performing brand new material from one of Broadway's hottest duos, Pasek and Paul. Chico local, Timothy Allen McDonald, wrote the book and now Inspire students are excited to bring it to the local stage and tour to local K-8 schools throughout the year. This delightfully offbeat adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl adventure has endless creative possibilities. The students of Inspire have crafted a set that resembles a giant pop-up book with vivid textures and colors, costumes designed with Chico State’s Costume Shop that are fashionably set in the early 1950s, and lighting that makes this story of hope and adventure come to life.

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach... and launches a journey of enormous proportions. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach – among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities – but, after it falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements. Thanks to James' quick wit and creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together as a family. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes a whole new twist once they land on the Empire State Building.
